Scratch your Green itch in Lockdown with plants that can be multiplied with cutting

Before starting this post I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all the corona commandos who are fighting at the frontline against the corona pandemic. I thank every frontline fighter for keeping us safe against the corona.

Hello friends. I hope all of you are safe and doing well amid the Corona Crisis. Please practice Social Distancing. Please pray for the safety of others. And stay home, stay safe and stay green :)

Today we will talk about the plants that you can propagate in this worldwide lockdown simply through cuttings. Some of these you can propagate in normal tap water while others you can grow in simply sand or a mixture of sand and garden soil. So without further delay, let's start propagation of some of our favorite plants.

1) Hibiscus: It had to be our number 1 pick as it is quite common and propagate without any fuss. ( Not to mention it is my favorite) Take a semi-hardwood cutting from an old branch (having the thickness of a pencil). Insert it potting mix and keep in semi-shade area until new leaves start emerging.

2) Baby Sun Rose: This common succulent summer plant is available in various colors such as red, yellow, orange. Please note that being succulent, it doesn't require lots of watering.

3) Euphorbia milii: Another succulent on the list is Euphorbia milii. Just take a cutting from an old branch and plant it in the sand. Press gently to secure the cutting in the sand and eliminate the air pockets. Apply water only when the surface looks dry. Over-watering may lead to root rot in the newly developing roots.

4) Peperomia: This member of the succulent family requires a little bit more water compared to its counterparts. So, if you have cocopeat at hand, you can easily multiply Peperomia in it. Summer season is the predominant growing season of Peperomia, so it will aid in faster growth of cuttings. Please avoid direct sunlight as it may cause leaf burn in this nascent stage of growth.

5) Coleus: Take a minor cutting off the colorful Coleus and insert it in the sand medium. Don't forget to water generously as Coleus loves moisture. Coleus is a rapidly developing plant. It can develop roots within 5-6 days if proper precautions are taken.

6)Portulaca: Affectionately known as "Moss Rose" or " 10-o'clock" flower, Portulaca can grow quite easily and rapidly with bare minimum care. Just don't overdo watering as it hates being drowned in the water. You can also make a DIY portulaca tower or a Portulaca wall. If you wanna know more about these DIYs, then don't forget to mention them in the comment section.

7) Vinca: Appropriately called 'Sadabahar', Vinca is known for its eye-catching colorful blooms. You can easily multiply it in the sand. You can expect to see new growth within 15-20 days depending on the climatic conditions of your area.

8) Rose: Yup, you read it right peeps. You can multiply the 'King of the Flowers' from a 6-7 inch long pencil-thick cutting in the sand. Be sure you remove all leaves from the cutting as they may divert the energy of the plant from root formation to photosynthesis.

9) Money plant: Cut a healthy branch just below the node area and place it in clean water. That's all. Now reward yourself with a brand new money plant. It's just that simple. The only precaution you need to take is: Change the water every week to avoid insect infestation and root rot.

To increase the rate of success of the growth of the selected cuttings, you can dip your cuttings into Rooting Hormone Powder and Fungicide Powder. These items contain active ingredients that promote root formation and eliminate any chance of root rot due to fungal infestation.
