9 Store bought veggies that you can magically regrow

It seems that buying vegetables from the store is becoming a routine. But where's the fun in routine? Do you know what's really badass?

Growing fresh, organic, healthy veggies from kitchen scraps. You read it just right. From saving a ton on bills from grocery stores to reducing waste and eating fresh organic vegetables (which are nutrient-dense), there are a plethora of benefits you can gain from starting a vegetable garden. So here's a list of common veggies you can grow from vegetable scraps lying around in the kitchen:

1) Red Onions, Green onions, Leeks: Just save the half-inch of a white base with roots and plant in potting soil having high nitrogen content (Nitrogen helps to get bigger bulbs). Water regularly and cut the green sprouts as per the requirement. The same goes for leeks.
(For green onions, just place the white base in shallow water and place it near the windowsill. Use the sprouting greens as and when required.)

2)Garlic: You can grow an abundant supply of garlic from the garlic bulb. Take big garlic cloves and plant them in soil with pointy ends up. Follow the thumb rule of gardening while planting. Plant garlic at a thumb's depth and an arms' length apart.
Bonus tip: Garlic sprout is edible and can be used in soups and curries.

3) Ginger: Take a 2-inch piece of a spare piece of ginger root and plant it in the soil with the buds facing up. Add lots of compost and water regularly.

4) Potatoes: Potatoes are one of the easiest veggies you can ever grow. Just place the scraps in soil with eyes facing up. Sweet potatoes are grown like just their brother potatoes.
For getting a head start, suspend the potatoes over a glass containing water. Transfer into the soil when roots are long enough.

5) Carrots: Cut the top part of the carrot into the 1-inch length. Plant the carrot top- face down in the soil. Leaves are edible and can be mixed in salads, stews, curries, and soups for added nutrition and taste.

6) Lettuce, Cabbage, Bok choy, Romaine lettuce: Save the bottom piece and plant it face down in the soil. Good sunlight and water a couple of days and the magic begins.

7) Beets, turnips, parsnips: Growing these trios is a child's game as these grow extremely well from little scraps and clippings. Just save their tops and place them in a glass of water. After green growth appears, and roots are well developed, transfer them in the ground.

8) Tomatoes: You can grow red juicy tomatoes from those seeds that you probably throw out anyway. Wash them thoroughly and let them dry. Plant them in rich potting mix and water regularly. Once the seedlings are few inches tall, transfer them into your garden where abundant sunlight is available.

9) Pepper and Chili: If you are a spicy eater just like me, then chilies and peppers are a must for your garden. Peppers do extremely well with minimal care.
Just collect the seeds from pepper you have on hand and plant them in soil rich in nutrients. Water regularly and keep in direct sunlight. Now sit back and enjoy your spicy peppers.
