Pinch that off: When you get a hang of Gardening, you start getting addicted to growing plants. So sometimes it becomes hard and undigestible when I recommend trimming. However regular trimming has immense benefits for overall growth and development of plants.

Depending upon the house plants or indoor plants you own, the trimming technique may vary. Let me explain by citing a few examples: If you are proud parents of indoor plants having long sturdy stem then trim them beneath the leaf node. This will initiate side growth. You can also use this trick on the plant which has not shown any new signs of growth for quite some time.

Now if you are fond of long trailing plants and have house plants like Golden Pothos/ Money plant trim the ends. This will rewire the plant and the houseplant will divert its energy in forming lateral branches. Now reward yourself with a bushier and healthy plant.

Bonus tip: Don't throw away the recently trimmed branch of these house plants. Most of them can be easily propagated by these cuttings in water and soil.

Climber Vegetables can also benefit from trimming. Basically vegetable plants like tomato or cucumber develop small suckers or side stem near leaf node. Here we need to do the trimming for the opposite reason: For getting faster growth and fruits on these plants, we need to maximize their verticle growth. So it becomes imperative to removes any side stems developing to encourage faster and better vertical growth.

The When, Why and How of Watering:

Has it ever occurred to you why plants require water?

As we all must have read in our science textbooks that all living beings require water for growth and development. Our green friends are no exception.

House plants require water for a variety of functions: The most critical being:

1) To absorb all the essential nutrients and sugars from the soil via the root system and transport it to all the other parts of the plant.

2)You must have noticed that your houseplants start drooping if you forget to water them. Once you provide the water they stand tall and happy. So essentially, water helps plants stay tall and sturdy. Without water the house plants would fail to left it's own weight and starts drooping.

Now let's move on to the next important question: When to water your houseplants? Most people suggest that you should the houseplants in the evening. My experience suggests otherwise. According to my personal experience, the best time to water your houseplants is in the early morning. Watering in the evening can lead to waterlogging during long nights as the rate of evaporation is quite low at night. The next thing you see is your plant babies start drooping in the middle of the day as the rate of evaporation has increased.

So in my opinion the best time to water your plant babies in the early morning as it can reduce the chances of water stress during the day and waterlog during the night. See, doesn't it make sense now?
