Buying a plant? 8 things to remember when buying plant from the nursery

1)Decide your preference: Prep a list of plants based on factors such as size, shape, type (flowering/ foliage/ succulents), maintenance required or whether they can be used as living decor.

2)  Available sunlight: Before purchasing any plant, you should have a fair idea bout the lighting condition available in your space.

3)Known source: Always prefer buying plants from your known sources. Also, check whether the nursery is clean and hygienic as it affects the health of the plants.

4) Leaves don't lie: One of the easiest ways to access the health of the plant is to check its leaves. Buy plants with lush green and lively foliage. Avoid buying plants with wilted/damaged/curled leaves even if they are offered at a great discount.

5) Avoid diseased plants: take a closer look at the stem and underneath the leaves for any signs of infection. Look for the presence of sticky leaves, blisters/holes in leaves. An infected plant should be avoided because there is a high chance that they might infect your other healthy plants.

6)The secret lies in the roots: Secret to a lush green blooming plant is healthy roots. Don't e afraid to take the plant out of the container to check its roots system. Avoid plants with roots that are soft/ yellow/ brown/ crumbly that fall apart easily when you touch it.

7)Weed hunt: Check for the presence of weed in the plant container. It is an indicator of negligence and poor maintenance of soil. If you are planning to buy that plant,  remove weeds carefully before planting it or else it will colonize your garden in no time.

8) Ask the experts: Don't be afraid to ask the employees about plant options. Tell them about your preference, your garden/yard dimensions, or climate to help narrow down the ideal plant.
